Bird’s Eye Maple
Acer Saccharum or Bird’s-Eye Maple’s tiny knots in the grain resemble a bird’s eye. The figure is caused by unfavourable growing conditions for the tree when it attempts new buds for sunlight. The new shoots are aborted with the lack of sunlight, and the small knots or ‘bird’s eyes’ remain.
